Working with Wrexham Council and Coedpoeth United to provide youth activities

Minera Community Council is currently liaising with the Youth Services team at Wrexham Council to develop and design a programme of activities, which will be run later in 2022. The first step will be to conduct research, between now and Easter, with young people to find out what they would like, what they feel is missing in terms of youth support, and how a programme of activities can best be delivered.

It is a number of years since Minera had the benefit of a structured programme supported by WCBC, and we welcome this initiative. Alongside the preliminary research work, we are also working with Coedpoeth United, who are seeking to improve facilities at the football pitch by getting the old shipping container renovated.

Coedpoeth United have already done a magnificent job at the football field to bring it back into use, and are now looking to restore the container as a match day facility with changing rooms and showers. A grant is currently available from the Welsh Government to convert such containers into facilities for young people, and the plan is to include provision of a meeting space in the container as well, which would provide an indoor base for some of the activities in the proposed programme of youth support. The container has provided such a resource to the community previously, so we hope we can revive the arrangements in the months to come.
